FUJIFILM INSTAX MINI 8 REVIEW

I've been dying for an instant camera for ages and I finally decided to bite the bullet and purchase the Fujifilm Instax Mini 8. I feel ridiculously nostalgic when using this beauty and I definitely get flashbacks to using a Polaroid instant camera when I was a kid in the 90s (why did my family ever get rid of that thing??). I've been using my new camera here and there and I wanted to share my opinions on this!

First off, I chose the pastel blue color. The camera comes in white, black, blue, pink, and yellow (with all of the *colors* being pastel). The most important thing to know about this camera is that you can absolutely find a deal on it. These cameras run for around $100, but I got mine on Amazon for about $70. Prices vary for the different colors on Amazon (and prices also change frequently, so pay attention to that). My number one suggestion, no matter the color, is to buy it on Amazon, just because it's so much cheaper. Also, film is a lot cheaper on Amazon and because you do have to consistently buy film for this, you're going to want a good deal. A fun part of buying film is that you can either buy the standard white border, or you can choose from one of the other various options, like comics, Alice in Wonderland, stained glass, etc. (my personal fave is the rainbow pack).

The camera itself is very user friendly. All you have to do is pop in a pack of film, release the lens, and start snapping pictures. The picture will come out instantly and typically takes about 1-2 minutes to fully develop. There are different settings for indoors, outdoors, and different weather that your camera will instantly pick up on and choose the correct setting for you. However, you can change the setting if you prefer a different look to the images. The pictures are smaller than your average, square Polaroid pictures (they're about the size of a credit card). The camera is pretty lightweight and the novelty of having an actual physical image instantly, not just a digital image is wonderful.

All in all, I really have no complaints about this camera (which is rare for me) and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in purchasing one. The only minor complaint I have is the pain it will be to purchase expensive film all the time, though Amazon's cheaper prices make it bearable. All my friends love this thing and we have the best times taking instant pictures together. I'll keep it simple; I love this camera!

Have any of you been lusting after this camera? Do any of you have an instant camera? Let me know!

  1. Looks really cool! Although I think the old original ones are the coolest.

    1. The originals are definitely the best. I'd love to get my hands on one, but they're quite expensive now!
